Preparing Your Child for Their First Pediatric Dental Appointment

Dentist Blog

If you are the parent of a young toddler, and you feel they are ready to have their very first appointment with a dentist, you likely have a few reservations about the procedures ahead. Here are a few steps to take before your child's appointment takes place.

Take A Tour Of Prospective Facilities

If you do not yet have a dental practice secured to schedule your child's appointment, it is a good idea to do a bit of research before you commit to a date. This way you and your child will both feel completely at ease when the appointment date arrives. Inquire at a few dental practices in your area as to whether you can come to their facilities to take a look around. Pediatric dental facility staff members should go out of their way to make you and your child feel comfortable while you are visiting their building. If a practice declines a tour, move on to another business. Take the time to observe those in the waiting room and be sure there are a few activities available in this area for your child to keep themself occupied while waiting for their appointment as well.

Allow Your Child To Watch You At An Appointment

If possible, schedule an appointment with your own dentist in the weeks leading up to your child's own checkup. This way your child can watch the procedures conducted so they know what they will be doing when it becomes time for their own session. Ask your child to sit in a chair quietly during your appointment and let your dentist know that they may be asking questions as the procedures are performed. Let your child sit in the dental chair when your appointment comes to an end so they know what it feels like.

Set Up A Meeting With The Exact Dentist For The Appointment

When you have determined which dental practice to use, be sure to ask which dentist your child will be seeing when their appointment date arrives. Ask whether you can meet with the practitioner with your child beforehand. This will help your child to become familiar with their demeanor before the checkup begins. If your child has any questions about what the appointment entails, the dentist can help to set their mind at ease with an explanation of the process from the start to the very end.

The Reasons Why You Should Get A Root Canal

Hi, my name is Kevin Nelson and I want to tell you about my experience. I had a painful tooth so I went to see my dentist. After the examination, he said that I needed to have a root canal to save the tooth. I told the dentist to just pull the tooth instead and then he explained why that wasn't a good idea. He said that pulling the tooth would cause additional problems and then he told me what could happen. I didn't want any more problems, so the dentist did the root canal and I'm glad that he did. I wanted to write a blog to tell others about the benefits of a root canal and what to expect during the procedure. I hope that by getting the word out, other people won't make the same mistake that I almost did by getting a perfectly good tooth pulled.
