Dental Issues To Not Ignore Over The Holidays

Dentist Blog

No matter what you are planning to do over the holidays, whether you are traveling to visit friends or family or staying home to host a gathering yourself, the holidays can be a busy and exciting time. However, with all of this going on, there is a chance that you will avoid dealing with health issues that could arise. Dental problems and issues can occur at any time, including during the holiday season. The problem is that many people try to avoid dealing with dental issues until the holidays are over, whether that is beneficial to their health or not. Get to know some of the situations in which you should not ignore your dental issues over the holidays so that you can be sure that you are taking the best possible care of your oral health over the holidays and you can get to an emergency dentist if need be.

Severe Toothaches or Tooth Sensitivity

Over the holiday season, you will be consuming a great deal of rich and sugary food that you would (most likely) normally not be eating. Because of all of the unfamiliar foods that are rich, dense, and full of sugar, your teeth may develop problems. If you notice a severe toothache over the holidays, it is possible that you have developed a cavity as a result of all of this holiday indulgence.

If you wait days or weeks to deal with your painful toothache that develops over the holidays, it is possible that the infection causing your pain will worsen or spread elsewhere. This could cause gum disease as well as other infections. The longer you wait, the less likely you will be able to get a simple treatment to resolve the situation as well. Because of this, extreme tooth pain or sensitivity should be dealt with immediately to avoid more complicated problems and worse discomfort.

A Chipped or Cracked Tooth

Because the holidays tend to revolve around eating and big meals, there is an increased chance that you may chip or crack your tooth. Chipped and cracked teeth, whether they are painful or not are serious issues that should not be ignored.

Teeth have several layers and inside of the protective outer layers is the dental pulp and the dental nerves. If the pulp is exposed due to a chip or crack, the result can be severe infections and excruciating pain. Cracks and chips can also worsen very quickly after they occur, making repairs or filing the tooth ineffective. Go to an emergency dentist as soon as possible after the chip or crack occurs to avoid such problems.

Keeping these issues in mind, you can be sure that you are taking the best care of your dental health possible over the holiday season. For more information, visit websites like http://www.nwidentist.com/.

The Reasons Why You Should Get A Root Canal

Hi, my name is Kevin Nelson and I want to tell you about my experience. I had a painful tooth so I went to see my dentist. After the examination, he said that I needed to have a root canal to save the tooth. I told the dentist to just pull the tooth instead and then he explained why that wasn't a good idea. He said that pulling the tooth would cause additional problems and then he told me what could happen. I didn't want any more problems, so the dentist did the root canal and I'm glad that he did. I wanted to write a blog to tell others about the benefits of a root canal and what to expect during the procedure. I hope that by getting the word out, other people won't make the same mistake that I almost did by getting a perfectly good tooth pulled.
