Preparing Your Child For Their First Dental Adventure

Dentist Blog

If you have a small child, you will want them to see a dentist at a clinic like Kemper Pond Dental so that they have an early start in the care of their teeth. It is recommended to take your child to a dentist well before their permanent teeth come in so that any potential problems with alignment or the health of the gums can be cared for properly. Your child may be a little apprehensive about going to a dentist. Here are some ways that you can prepare them for their first visit.

Explain The Procedure

You will want to talk to your child about the importance in going to a dentist and in taking care of teeth. Even with very small children, you can use simple terminology to talk about teeth so that they have an idea that their teeth need to be kept clean. With toddlers you can explain how seeing a dentist will help them have healthy teeth and let them know that you will be taking them soon.

Take A Visit To The Office

Call the dentist's office and ask them if it would be alright to bring in your child for a quick visit to see what the office looks like ahead of time. An easy way to do this would be to bring your child to your next cleaning appointment. They would be able to watch the entire procedure so that they know what to expect. Ask the hygienist to hold off on discussing any work that you may need to get done until your child is not within hearing range so that they do not become scared for their own upcoming visit.

Sitting In The Chair

A great idea is to allow your child to sit in the dentist's chair for a minute or two at the end of your appointment. You can point out where the water is for rinsing and let them see what the view looks like from the seat they will be sitting in.

Meeting The Dentist

If possible, let the dentist know ahead of time that you will be bringing your child to your visit so that he or she can come into the room to introduce themselves to your child. This will really help familiarize the entire cleaning procedure to your child before they come in for their own appointment.

Going To The First Appointment

The day of the first appointment will most likely be exciting for your child. Make sure to praise your child for a job well done when they get in to the chair and after the appointment is over. Taking the time to prepare your child has probably made the experience a positive one!

The Reasons Why You Should Get A Root Canal

Hi, my name is Kevin Nelson and I want to tell you about my experience. I had a painful tooth so I went to see my dentist. After the examination, he said that I needed to have a root canal to save the tooth. I told the dentist to just pull the tooth instead and then he explained why that wasn't a good idea. He said that pulling the tooth would cause additional problems and then he told me what could happen. I didn't want any more problems, so the dentist did the root canal and I'm glad that he did. I wanted to write a blog to tell others about the benefits of a root canal and what to expect during the procedure. I hope that by getting the word out, other people won't make the same mistake that I almost did by getting a perfectly good tooth pulled.
